A Brief History
The school was founded on July 17, 1881 by the Sister of the holy Names of Jesus and Mary. It began in Tampa, Florida as a two-room school house for 35 students and has grown into a full K-12 school for over 900 students.
In 1962 a separate division was established for boys in grades 1 through 8. In 1989, the Boys Academy joined with The Academy of the Holy names into one coed school. The high school, however, remains all-girls.
The school's yellow brick building on Bayshore Blvd. began construction in 1928 and is the main facility for the academy today.
